Merging layers images
Week 3- Critique
Website Critique
The website I have chosen to critique is http://www.deviantart.com/
I have been a member of this site for 6 years and have found it to be a great way of display artwork to a large artistic community.
The site's layout is fairly easy to navigate, when you go to the home page you can look through all the newest updated work. You can also look at the work that has been the most liked by other members.
The search system allows you to browse many different artist categories and allows you to look for artwork based of specific themes.
The aesthetics of the site are good the colour palate is simple and easy on the eye. The nice soft greens are quite inviting and make browsing through the website quite a joy.
The advertising on the site can get annoying and some of the money making methods and comments features feel a tad unnecessary.
On a more positive note, the site allows you to buy prints of your favourite work. They do all the work and send it to the buyers without the artist having to do a thing. The downside is the amount of commission they take for each artwork.
This is the first image I have chosen to critique.
This is a digital work done in photoshop, I love fantasy images and this combines one of my favourite mythological creatures with a Viking longboat. The ferocity of the storm is prevalent, it gives the image a powerful feeling, which compounds the feeling of doom the viewer has for the men in the boat.
This is the second image i have chosen it is a 3D image. I like it because of the blend of realism and fantasy, the shine of the sword and the armour. The medieval period has always appealed to me and this image represents all that I come to expect from that time. the image conveys a sense of nobility and honour. Of power, a Champion for the weak and the helpless.
The third image I have chosen. This image is a homage to the tabletop Warhammer 40,000.
This image captures the spirit of the game and is a realisation of the imagination and spirit that goes into it. It romanticises war and inspires the viewer. The warriors are defending their flag to the last and the desperation to ensure it stands tall is inspiring
